10 Mechanicville elementary students were recognized on May 8th for the annual Sandra G. Morley Physical Education Student Leadership Award.  The program was held at Hudson Valley Community College and is put on by the Capital Zone chapter of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYSAHPERD). Almost 800 students were chosen from over thirty school districts and twelve counties were recognized.  Physical Education teachers Mike Tavani and Katie Stanich selected students Harper Rivera, Ayden Konopka, Olivia Peterson, Nick Cenci, Gemma Zappia, Hunter Schunk, Makayla Mulheren, Aiden DiSiena, Ava Miranda, and Ethan Messercola as the honorees.  Coach Stanich and Coach Tavani have said that these students have demonstrated responsible personal and social behavior, sportsmanship, and citizenship, and a desire to learn and improve. They also have exhibited a physically active lifestyle, demonstrated leadership and have been a positive influence on peers, while contributing toward the total school program.
