Important Message from Board of Education President Marlene Tierney

March 28, 2022

To All Red Raider Community Members:

This evening, the Mechanicville City School District (MCSD) Board of Education (BOE) accepted the resignation of Superintendent Bruce Potter.  The Board thanks Mr. Potter for his work in Mechanicville.

The Board has appointed Kevin Kolakowski as Interim Superintendent, effective immediately.  Kevin has been Acting Superintendent for the past month.   Kevin is well known to staff, students, parents and well-respected by the MCSD community and BOE.  Kevin served as the Jr./Sr. High School principal for ten years and was then promoted to Assistant Superintendent where he has served for the last two years.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the superintendent role.  The Board is grateful for Kevin’s leadership throughout his career with our district and during this transition.

The MCSD BOE will begin its official search for a superintendent initially through an internal posting. Requests for expressions of interest will be sent to all MCSD employees holding a School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA) certification. Interested candidates will interview for the position with the BOE.  If the internal search does not yield a successful candidate, the Board will assess expanding the search to candidates outside the MCSD staff.

We look forward to appointing a Superintendent that is capable of leading our district and will continue the tradition of academic excellence at MCSD.  We will keep you informed as the process moves forward.

Sincerely,

Marlene Tierney

President Board of Education
