Inclement Weather Plan

Red Raider Community:

I’m writing to discuss our plan for handling issues that arise from inclement weather. As has always been my practice, decisions are made based solely on the safety of our students and staff members. Although COVID and our re-entry plan provided opportunities for virtual learning we do not have the capacity K-12 to implement this plan with fidelity and in an equitable manner.

Therefore, if the weather dictates that we need to close school we will implement a traditional snow day. There are a number of days built into our calendar that permit flexibility for us to do so, just as we always have. Another strategy we historically have utilized is the use of a 2-hour delay. This provides municipalities with the time necessary to clear roads as well as allow our buildings and grounds team to clear parking lots and walkways. Given the truncated school day and 3 bus runs we need to adjust how this will work. In the event we utilize this approach, the school day schedule will be as follows for the different grade levels:

  • K-3: 10:00-2:00
  • 4-6: 11:00-3:00
  • 7-12: 10:00-3:00 (full virtual whether we are in the zone instructional plan or have returned to hybrid)

BOCES CTE, Tec SMART, New Visions, and out of district placements for Exceptional Learners will be dictated by the program they participate in and the weather where they are located.

We are in the home stretch as we approach the holiday recess. Please continue to stay safe, be vigilant and #RaiderUp against COVID.

My best,

Bruce
