Ms. Molina’s Family and Consumer Science students visit Tiashoke Farm

On October 28th, Ms. Molina’s Family and Consumer Science students from the Food & Nutrition and Gourmet Food courses took an educational field trip to Tiashoke Farm. Students gained insight into the dedication and complexity behind producing high-quality milk, beef, pork, and pumpkins.
During their visit, the group got hands-on experience in the fields by gleaning two full bins of assorted winter squash, giving them a firsthand appreciation for the hard work involved in harvesting crops. The squash was donated to Comfort Food Community to help nourish local families in need.
Back in the classroom, students learned how to prepare and cook a wide variety of winter squashes—including acorn, carnival, delicata, mashed potato, Hubbard, butternut, buttercup, candy roaster, autumn frost, and honeynut. They concluded the lesson with a taste test to explore and compare the unique flavor profiles and textures of each variety.
