June 8, 2020: Governor Cuomo has issued an Executive Order, extending the date the District can receive mailed-in Absentee Ballots to June 16, 2020 @ 5:00pm. Here is a breakdown of what this means to voters:
June 9, 2020 5:00pm: This is the deadline for voters wishing to hand deliver their absentee ballot to the District Clerk’s office. Please also note no blank Absentee Ballots will be available for distribution after 5:00pm, therefore, if you have not received a ballot; please call 518-664-5727 ext. 2203 ASAP.
June 16, 2020 5:00pm: Deadline for District Clerk to receive mailed in ballots.
June 16, 2020 5:01pm: All ballots will be opened and counted using our process as outlined below
Two-Step Ballot Opening Process:
An envelope containing a returned absentee ballot will not be opened until a determination is made that there is no reason for rejecting the ballot, which could happen if, for example, the voter fails to provide the signature required by law to appear on the envelope containing the ballot. 2. Once such a determination is made and the envelope opened, the ballot is withdrawn without unfolding and separated from the signature/oath envelope. As a result, at the time of counting, the ballots will not be linked to the envelope in which they were returned.
