Mechanicville City School District Board of Education Announces Intent to Appoint Interim Superintendent

Mechanicville, February 6, 2019 – The Mechanicville City School District Board of Education has announced their intent to appoint Dr. Jon G. Hunter to lead the school district as their interim superintendent at the next meeting of the Board on February 7, 2019. Dr. Hunter’s service will begin on March 4, 2019, and he will serve in the interim superintendent role until the new superintendent commences service. The district will pay Dr. Hunter $650.00 per day. Dr. Hunter is a retiree, therefore the district is not obligated to offer health insurance nor required to contribute to the state retirement system on Dr. Hunter’s behalf. Prior to retirement in January 2014, Dr. Hunter served as superintendent of schools for the Fairport Central School District in Rochester, New York. Dr. Hunter also served as the superintendent of the Geneseo Central School District for six years and as the high school principal in the Bethlehem Central School District for thirteen years. Since retirement, Dr. Hunter has continued to be active in education administration, including serving as interim superintendent at Lake George Central School District in 2016, as interim deputy superintendent at Rochester City School District in 2017, as interim superintendent at South Glens Falls in 2018, and as interim superintendent at West Irondequoit Central Schools in 2019. Board President Marlene Tierney said, “The Mechanicville Board of Education interviewed four outstanding candidates for the interim superintendent position and chose Dr. Hunter because of his experience as an interim Superintendent and his apparent knowledge of our district. We are excited Dr. Hunter has accepted the job and look forward to working with him.” Dr. Hunter said, “I am looking forward to working with the Mechanicville board of education, students, faculty, staff and parents. Mechanicville is a strong district with a tradition of pride and commitment to student success. They have outstanding educators and new programs in technology and an ongoing building renovation project. I am excited about making a professional and personal commitment to the Mechanicville schools and city.” Dr. Hunter has a home in Ballston Lake, New York, where he resides with his wife Sabina.
