Mechanicville names top graduates from the Class of 2017
June 6, 2017- Congratulations to Julia Amodeo, who has been named the Mechanicville Class of 2017 valedictorian, and Andrea Timbone, who has been named salutatorian. Both students will be honored at the commencement ceremony on Saturday, June 24.
Julia Amodeo, Class of 2017 Valedictorian
Julia will be attending Binghamton University in the fall and she plans to study environmental policy and Spanish. She hopes to one day be a sustainability consultant.
During her high school career, Julia was involved in soccer and basketball. She was also class president and a member of the National Honor Society.
In the community, Julia was a summer camp counselor for Halfmoon Recreation. She was also involved in sport fundraising and Elks Club youth sports programs.
“I’m really going to miss the people in Mechanicville, especially my classmates,” Julia said.
One of her favorite memories of her time at Mechanicville was when her team won the Indian Cup in soccer her junior year.
Julia would like to thank her parents, her friends, her brother Nick, Mrs. Hughes, Mrs. Behrens, Mr. Jerebek, Coach Goverski, and Mr. Kowlakowski for everything they’ve done for her.
“I’m looking forward to meeting new people in college and being able to be on my own schedule,” Julia said. “I’m excited to take classes that interest me and will help me towards my future goals.”
Julia is the daughter of John and Laurie Amodeo. She has two brothers, Nicholas (13) and Michael Maiello (31).
Andrea Timbone, Class of 2017 Salutatorian
Andrea will be attending Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania in the fall. She plans to study social work, with minors in counseling and criminal justice. Her goal is to one day become a victim’s specialist with the FBI.
While at Mechanciville, Andrea was a member of the volleyball team, indoor and outdoor track teams, National Honor Society (president), Yearbook Club (treasurer), band (president), and Drama Club.
Andrea plans to pursue track while at Messiah College.
Outside of school, Andrea has been involved in community theater. She was also an overnight summer camp counselor at Camp Cedarbrook in the Adirondacks. At Fruitful Vine Christian Church in Ballston Lake, Andrea is a part of the worship team and the youth group. She is also a youth ministry department assistant and a junior church teacher.
“I’m going to miss my friends, our entire grade, band, and track,” Andrea said. “My favorite memories all have to do with track, especially when the boys team won the outdoor sectional meet my junior year.”
Andrea would like to thank her family, her friends, Ms. O’Malley, Mr. Jeffery, Coach Foard, Coach Simmons, Coach Katie Pearl, and Coach McBride.
“I’m really excited to take classes that pertain to my major,” Andrea said. “I can’t wait to meet new people and be in charge of my own day.”
Andrea is the daughter of Gennaro and Judith Timbone. She has two sisters, Victoria (28) and Jessica (24).
