Message from the Jr/Sr High School Principals

Dear Mechanicville Families,

It is our pleasure to welcome you back to the 2018-2019 school year!  We will begin our school year on Thursday September 6, 2018. The start time for students has changed and the first bell will ring at 8:03AM when students are expected to be in their classrooms ready to start the day.

Drop off for all students in grades 6-12 will take place outside of the doors with the red awning.  Students will enter these doors where all students will have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast before they begin their day.  Students in grade 9-12 not choosing to have breakfast will proceed into the HS gym atrium until the first bell rings whereas students in grades 6-8 not participating in breakfast will proceed down the hall past the cafeteria to the former HS cafeteria.

This year we will be introducing a new breakfast program!  This will be open to all students 6-12. Breakfast will be served from 7:30-8:03 each day.  Breakfast costs will be $1.75 for Jr./Sr. High School students.  Food service will begin using a new platform, NutriSlice, for the 2018-19 school year.  It is a free, downloadable app that allows patrons to access the food service menus for their buildings.  In addition, it will allow patrons in the Jr/Sr High School to pre-order their lunches!  More information is available on our website and a tutorial will be presented to students with instructions on how to operate this app during the first day of school. Student schedules are now available online!  Please check the student portal for updates. If you have trouble or have yet to sign up to access the student portal, please call the main office at 518-664-9888 ext. 2422 for assistance.  Also it should be known that Students will receive their Chrombooks upon return to school during their 1st period/block on day 1.

There are several important dates coming up next week.  9th grade orientation will take place on Tuesday September 4 at 6:30PM.  6th grade orientation will take place on September 5 at 6:00PM.  Both presentations will begin in the auditorium and provide information about the upcoming school year.  The 6th grade orientation will also feature our 6th grade team in an Open House format with short presentations in each room.  We hope to see you there!

On September 13 at 6:30PM, we will be hosting our annual open house for parents and students to come in and learn about our school.  This program will also begin in the auditorium and provide information about our school. This session will be followed up with short “meet and greets” with your child’s teacher.

Finally, we know many of you are ready to get into school and get the ball rolling by setting up lockers and taking a look around.  We will keep you posted with dates and times when the building will be officially open. Until then, enjoy the last few days of summer and we look forward to working with you all this year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Kolakowski and Mr. Forth
