Mechanicville fourth and fifth graders took part in the 13th annual Environmental Field Day on Wednesday, May 10. The event took place at the 4-H Training Center in Ballston Spa.

The students participated in 28 different stations where they could learn about things like owls, a search-and-rescue dog, how to fight fire wildfires, basic safety and survival tips, and how to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.

Mechanicville fifth-grade teacher Eileen Johnson said she hopes the event will encourages kids to explore things on their own.

“It’s taking what they learn in the classroom and applying it in nature,” she said.

Now the hope is that our students can go out and help make the world a better place!
