Mechanicville City School District 2018-19
Welcome Back, Students and Parents!
It’s that time of year again, and summer break is quickly coming to an end.
On behalf of the Board of Education, Administration and our entire school staff, I would like to welcome all our new and returning students back to a promising and exciting new 2018-19 school year.
We want to thank our parents and students for their patience and cooperation as we have worked our way through Phase I of the Capital Building Project. Renovating our school environment will continue to be a challenge, however, as we continue to progress through each phase of this project we believe the facility improvements will be well worth the inconvenience encountered.
This year we will open our brand new state of the art cafeteria with multiple media and sound outlets, a courtyard and a new breakfast program for our grades 6-12 students. In addition, our new all-weather track and all-purpose exhibition field will be completed this fall for use by our football and soccer teams. We have also made improvements at our elementary school both internally and externally with our bus loop, our elementary parent pick-up area and parking lot all experiencing extensive sub-base work and new pavement. We are excited and anticipate breaking ground this fall for our new Science and Technology wing (Phase II). Again, we thank our students and parents for their patience and understanding as we work through the various phases of the capital project.
Our student-athletes and coaches arrived back on campus August 13th for the 2018 sports season. Several of our teachers have completed summer curriculum writing and are making plans for our students return to campus. Administrators have been creating the 2018-2019 master schedule and working with our custodial staff to get our buildings ready for the new year.
Our goals continue to be to fully engage every student, improve academic achievement at all levels and create interesting and unique learning opportunities for all students. Our district goals are as follows:
- To ensure all students have the opportunity to graduate college and career ready
- To have high teaching and learning standards
- To encourage the administration and teaching staff to explore strategies for improved instructional delivery
- To add flexibility to our improvement plans as we continue to replace the “one-size fits all” approach to educating children.
- To focus on closing achievement gaps and provide resources to our most vulnerable children.
This summer has been a busy one and time sure flew by fast. Classes will begin on Thursday, September 6, 2018. We look forward to working with you and your children this school year and we are committed to doing whatever it takes to help them reach their full potential!
We look forward to having a great 2018-2019 School Year!
